I’m just your average beer & coffee drinking software developer and sysadmin in Portland, Oregon. When I told people I was moving here, nobody was surprised. This may have something to do with the toe shoes. I’ve been a Developer Advocate and Community Lead for years (formerly at Puppet), which basically means that I know how to talk to developers outside the company and to developers inside the company and I can help them to be friends with each other. I get to play with all the cool new tools and help others learn how to do it for real.

When I started there, I was in professional services, which meant that I visited exotic places like Denver and Columbus and teach people to use Puppet or help them integrate it into their infrastructure. Over time most of my travel shifted towards blabbing at conferences and such. You may have seen me once or twice.

Now I’ve spun off and formed my own company, Overlook InfraTech, which means that I add the duties of founder and CEO to that list. We created the open source Puppet fork known as OpenVox when Perforce acquired Puppet and sequestered the source away into a proprietary distribution. Now we spend much of our time supporting OpenVox, providing services, and doing custom development. If that could be of use to you, then book some time with me or take a look at our services page.

Oh, and I run marathons in those funny finger shoes although with everythin on my plate, I’m not doing so great at making time for training. Maybe it’s time to drop down to the half-marathon distance!
